The Jungle Communication Centre (JCC), Osogbo, Osun State, Nigeria hold a 3-day International Seminar / Workshop themed "Towards Human Future". The Seminar / Workshop thematic focus was on "The Gods and the World", directed towards the need to look inward to find solutions to the growth and development of mankind.
JCC stimulated a research on our forefathers and their traditional beliefs, so that there will be development in all facets of our life and existence, in order to bring a stop to killing, robbery, dishonesty and inhumanity to man.
The initiator of the seminar gives
an overview on musical instruments, on traditional, highlife and modern
Yoruba and African musicians. He mentions also Afro-American music. Okonfo
Rao Kawawa emphasizes the social force and the healing powers of African
music: "Music is a dangerous and fearful weapon" - "Music and dance as
therapy world music".
By terse remarks, he evaluates
the cultural changements: "Through the industrial development era human
being tries to turn a deaf ear to the ancestral Philosophy, which has been
known long time ago by the society. Practice makes man perfect, the less
the science of the ancestors is being put into practice, the more source
will be forgotten. Back to the roots should not be only slogan."
Dr. Adeoti makes an attempt to examine the positive and the negative effects of Nigerian - traditional and modern - culture on health. So he is dicussing changes of family values, population explosion and the way traditional rites are celebrated. Two stories illustrate the problem of responsibilty for the future - here education plays a key role. Finally Dr. Adeoti says some words about the health-care system and the role of native herbalists.
"The gods cannot be neglected.
As for those who say gods are not stupid, Jungle Communication Centre (JCC)
is calling on people all over the world to be part of this Seminar / Workshop
"Towards Human Future". Before everything fall apart, the moment to rekindle
that human feelings is NOW. "
